Web Media : The Flash-Enabled Talking Tourguide

The designers of Portfolios.com aren't content to just let visitors read their product descriptions. Enter their site, and you'll immediately hear a talking tourguide welcome you to the site and begin to lead you around. Her presence (I believe her name is Alec... always good to remember names) persists on some, but not all, of the site's subpages.

Strangely, this is a rare feature for a website even though the technology required to support it has been widespread for years. It's a nice touch, especially considering the site's target audience - artsy types who understand technology but stumble when mentally sorting large amounts of information, including complex site navigation and detailed product menus.

(Wouldn't you think a girl who looks like that would have something other than a girly voice? I figure someone with that much makeup would be a little more throaty...)
